Fix the Ick's: Bathroom Edition

Is your bathroom a nightmare? Follow our plan to fix the ick's with our Free Guide!

When I first saw my husband's bathroom, it was a scene straight out of Decor Disasters. Rico had tried giving the bathroom a facelift with black paint on ornate mirrors and modern black faucets that did not belong in the space. It didn’t help, it only made things worse. He did try though!

Tactical Touch-Ups and Temporary Fixes

And then I came along! Before going full demolition mode (why are bathrooms SO expensive?!), we decided to tackle some less invasive updates. We plan to remodel the entire bathroom in the next few years, so for now, we’re just going to do the best we can on a budget we can afford.

Where do you start in your bathroom, or any room for that matter? Function. Function. Function. Your bathroom needs to function well for you. You spend every morning and evening using it, so why not make it one of your favorite places to be? Think about how you want this space to work for you instead of you for it.

I love working in smaller spaces for quicker wins. Here's what I did to give this space a space lift:

Day 1:

- Organized Everything: I took everything out of every single cabinet and reorganized it with bins. I stored extras or duplicates of anything in a hall closet so that only the things we need are within reach.

- Added a Rug: Added a touch of color and style to the space to help with other decisions. I'll be the first to admit it's a little small, but I love it too much to replace.

Day 2:

- Shower Upgrades: Added more storage and extra towel hooks for optimal function and organization.

- Bath Upgrades: Added some candles and accessories like bath salts and body scrubs.

Day 3:

- Accessorized More: Added some glass shelves for bath essentials and I hid our laundry bin and mini fridge with curtains that blend well with the rug.

- Plant Shelf and Plants: I made this shelf a few years ago and I love how much the plants have grown in to the space.

- Refinished Cabinets: I wiped the cabinets down with some stain to just give them a tiny face lift.

It’s Not Perfect, But It’s Ours

Is the bathroom done? For now, yes. Good enough is good enough, and we have bigger fish to fry at the moment (like our stairs and fireplace). Overall, the bathroom does what we need it to do, and I think it even goes the extra mile with how cozy the tub space is. I really want to add a a chandelier to that space, but again - we're going to redo the entire space at some point so I'll probably just wait.

Remember, “good enough” often is. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your own ‘home horror story’, you’re not alone! Reach out, share this post with a friend who needs a nudge, or dive in and start small. Every big change begins with one brave, small step.
