Introducing the Dollhouse Design Series: Breaking Down Design in 5 Steps

During a classic bout of ADHD impulse shopping, I bought a dollhouse. Not just any dollhouse—a children’s dollhouse with an elevator (a non-negotiable feature, obviously). The whole ordeal involved a guy named Tracey who tried to sell me like 5 more dollhouses, it was insane.

Anyway, it’s been sitting, untouched, for months, but I finally decided to dust her off and put her to work—for YOU. Yes, Rico thinks it’s ridiculous, but hey, here we are.

Oh, BTW—hi! I’m Nicole, and I’m on a mission to help everyone in Sacramento love their home by breaking down design, one bite at a time. Sound like your vibe? Great! Join my email list, Design Spoon, and you could win $100 this month to spend at a local business! (Check out the rules on my website—seriously, go look.)

What’s This Dollhouse Series About?

Okay, back to the dollhouse. Here’s the plan: I’m turning this tiny elevator-equipped house into a design laboratory to teach YOU how to completely transform any room in your home—whether you’re renting, owning, or just stuck staring at walls you hate.

Monday, I’m launching Part 1 of my 4-Part Dollhouse Design Series, where I’ll break down how to redesign any space using my 5-step method. These steps are fun, practical, and totally doable—even on a renter’s budget.

Step 1: Gather Inspiration and Choose Your Style Blend

To kick things off, I need your help! The first room I’m tackling is the bedroom, and it’s literally the most important room in your home. If your bedroom isn’t a 10/10, it’s time for a makeover.

Here’s where you come in:

Comment below with a style combination you’d love to see me bring to life.

Scandi + Japandi? Mid-Century + Urban? Let me know, and your style might inspire my very first dollhouse design!

Why Follow Along?

This isn’t just about dollhouse fun—this series will show you how to:

Visualize your dream space.

Make confident design decisions.

Create a space you love without breaking the bank.

Plus, I’ll be sharing tips, mood boards, and step-by-step transformations so you can apply these ideas to your real home!
