Live, Laugh, Panic: My (first) Podcast

Let me set the scene: I’m sitting in front of the mic, headphones on, no makeup, staring at Sacramento Real Estate expert Rose Cabral as she welcomes me to her podcast, Home Is Where…. Oh, and surprise—it’s on camera, and I didn’t even brush my hair or put on a decent shirt. Hi, I’m Nicole, and I’ve never been more unprepared in my life. Let’s dive in!

This was the moment — my first podcast appearance. I was about to talk about my baby, Be Happy You’re Home, and my passion for helping everyone (yes, even houseless people) create spaces that feel like home. I’ve been dreaming of this opportunity for years. But you know what they don’t tell you? It’s tough to sound cool and composed when your brain decides to just… blackout!

So there I was, talking about my mission to make design accessible to everyone, regardless of budget or circumstances. Or at least, I think I was. Honestly, somewhere between Rose asking me my first question and me trying to sound insightful, I completely blacked out.

Like, full-on “Oh my God, am I even saying words?” territory.

I vaguely remember rambling about how design isn’t just about making things pretty (it’s not!). I think I mentioned my three-day workshop and my custom Google Maps directory of 180+ local Sacramento stores. Did I tell the story about my mom and how her experience with houselessness helped inspire my mission? Maybe?

The truth is, I couldn’t tell you. I was so excited, so nervous, so in my own head, that the entire conversation felt like a blur. It’s like my brain turned into a raccoon on espresso, just darting from one thought to the next.

Here’s the kicker: I haven’t been able to bring myself to listen to the episode yet. The idea of hearing my own voice and reliving my sweaty-palmed panic spiral? Not today, Satan.

Despite the chaos in my head, I know this podcast is a big deal. It’s a chance to connect with Sacramento, to share my passion for local businesses and home design, and to encourage people to turn their spaces into sanctuaries. Whether you’re living in a house, a rental, or a van down by the river, I’m here to help you be happy you’re home.

So, if you’re interested enough to listen to me stumble my way through my first podcast, check out the episode here. And maybe let me know how I did? Because, honestly, I have no idea.
